Tell me gurus your thoughts on the Remington 700 mountain rifle?
I've been looking for some time now for a wood stock rifle with a detachable mag and recently found one for sale in 30-06 with a Leupold VX-2 3-9x40
It's NIB condition.$900
I heard of heated up barrells and saftey problems so I'm a little nervous but I've heard also very accurate and the weight factor as positive factors.

I have a 700 mountain LSS in 7mm-08...I love....LOVE that rifle! Seriously speaking, I own/have owned probably 100+ deer rifles, and that little mountain is the sweetheart of all of them. It is super nice to carry, and freakishly accurate. I had it out the other day to check zero, and at 100m it was putting the first two shots pretty much into the same hole, and at 200 the first two shots were consistantly in the sub 1" range. The third shot ALWAYS opens up to an inch or so at 100, but thats because the barrel gets hot so fast. IMO, that doesn't mean anything in a hunting rifle though....'cause chances are that third shot (if you need it) isn't going to be a precision scenario anyway and that extra inch isn't going to make a lick of difference...:D

900 bucks is about right...esp. if you like that scope. There is/was another mountain in the EE recently in 260 (I think) that was a good deal as well. If I were to buy another, I'd probably still buy it in 7/08 or 260 unless it was a bear gun. IMO the short action cart's just make this little gun that much better.

I have one in .270 currently its the LSS model but in the past I have owned a 30/06, 260, 7mm-08, in the blued version and they where all excellent guns. I just take more time when doing my load work because of the thinner barrels. I will never be without one! If you remember they are a hunting rifle and not a target rifle you will love that rifle!

They really shine inthe shortaction ca;libres like 260 or 7-08. I had two 260's, the first was an LSS which was freaky accurate and a joy to carry. The second was the walnut DM model, it was good too , but not as nice as the LSS. The price including the leupy is about right.

especially if they have a nice set of Talleys on them :)
What's wrong with Talleys? I use them on my Mountain Rifle. ;) :)

Yes, those bbls do heat up fast, but they also cool down faster too. Take your time at the range. Watch your 1st and 2nd shots. #3 seems to be a bit warm in my 257R. I shoot two then cool, and then shoot two more at the same POI.

I try and take multiple rifles to the range when I shoot my light barreled rifles, shoot a group and grab a different rifle, I also use a damp towel and lay it on the barrel to act as a heat sink.

I like light guns and I like remington so it gets narrowed down to the mountain rifle, model 7, Titanium. They all make me horny

Ok I bought it-- still havent shot it ---wondering about the bolt face seems to not be round but rather oblong is this proper?
Hope to get it too the range tommorrow.

Rem 700 Mountain rifle

Hi,
I bought a LSS in 30-06. Well let me tell you:) This gun will shoot under 1" on the bench if you let the barrel cool after the third shot. I like this rifle so mutch that I went out and bought two more. I found a really nice walnut drop clip model in 243 and another in 7mm-08. They all seem to shoot well . I have shot under 1" with them all. Accurate, light, and great to look at. I have alot of rigs that I like to try, but the mountain rifles seem to be the rifle I use most often. Hope this helps. Points and carries like a dream. I have an out of the box LSS mountain rifle in .260 that shoots sub-MOA with handloads and almost as good with factory ammo. I am never going to sell this one. Thanks to Brambles going on about his custom rig, I am currently thinking of building one as well, just maybe a little different.

Been at the range all day once I got the scope dialed in and the bullets on the paper I was putting groups up the size of a quarter.
Very happy camper. Found that 4 shots were still sticking together 5 shot starting to rise. Let it cool down and after 50 shots with the CZ 22 do it again ---nice and tight just the way I like em.
Will hit a big hairy beast no problem.
Thanks for all the perswassion to buy this rifle and thank you
I Love Big Racks for the deal !
