Hi guys

I have a Rem 700 PSS (Police Sharp Shooter - same as 700P really) in 308 with a Bushnell Elite 4200 4-16x40 mounted on it.

I am finding that the stock is a little short for my liking (I'm about 6'4) so was wondering if anyone could recommend a good replacement recoil pad / stock extension for me, since I am getting tired of hunching!

Why not take off the recoil pad and make a spacer out of black high density polyethylene, that you can get from Lee Valley Tools.

Have someone help you measuring the thickness required.

I have long arms too, and lately I have found I shoot better with shorter butts. It tends to force me to concentrate more on my grip and cheek weld.

Second consideration should be what clothes you are wearing when shooting. Shooters who have to wear a few layers of uniform, frag vest, camo cover and tacvest need to use collapsible butts or very short ones in comparison to a quiet Sunday morning bullseye bench shooter.

Thanks for the advice guys. I picked up some polyethylene this morning so will let you know how it goes.

Hmm, I have not tried fitting an extension, but I am no handyman.

Are there any commercial products available out there?

Yup, I just put a Limbsaver slipover on my Savage, even tho it's only adding ~1" I found it makes a huge positive difference when shouldering the gun.

Now, I'm only 6' so you might not find it adequate, but worked great for me.

Thanks Dan and Redhouse.

I'll look into those. I'm 6'4 and even an inch would help - I just feel that I am hunching a lot over the rifle. I've used Limbsaver before, so I'll look at them and Pachmeyer.

Thanks again for the advice, much appreciated. :)
