My son just bought a new Rem 700 stainless in 270 Win. from cabelas. Shot 60 rds. & decided to lighten trigger pull as per the enclosed instructions. The rifle would de-#### itself about half the time the bolt was racked. He ran serial # & contacted gravel. They told him cabelas had the sevice repair done, & that they would not be re-servicing the rifle.
I reset the trigger weight back to 4 to 4 1/2 lbs. Rifle seems ok. That last sentence takes a giant leap of faith. If set too light is it normal to "slam-fire"? If set back to factory trigger weight settings, does this "fix" it?
He's new to shooting, & this has rattled him------and me. Advice?
Not ruling out a timney.

The trigger needs to be inspected and adjusted by someone competent. All 700 triggers be reworked light and crisp and safe as low as 1.5 or 2 pounds. "Competent Smiths' can do this for as little as $50.

I just had a Timney 700 trigger in for adjusting and it would not adjust lower than 3 pounds... and I believe it was advertised to go lower. I believe Timney's sell for over $150.

PS

Most gunsmiths don't need the complete rifle, only the trigger mechanism.

Why search when you can send it to, guntech, and who has posted to this thread?

Not only that, but he won't have your job sitting under the bench for 8 months! :runaway:
Ted
No slight intended to guntech------just didn't want to send the rifle all the way to BC from Ont.; shipping & insurance costs being what they are.

I put a Timney in my 700, it ran $170 shipped to my door. Im very happy with it and maybe if you hunt around you can find one for a bit less. But if you can straighten out what you got for $50 then that would be better yet. Nothing like a new rifle that doesn't work :bangHead:

Also even if it's not a recall issue doesn't mean it's not a warranty issue. Call them back and explain there's a problem, maybe they'll take care of it.

I have two guntech adjusted triggers sitting in waiting.
He gives new meaning to the definition of fast.
A trigger was mailed on a Monday, the day he received it was the same day it was in the mail back.
Talk with him first but a cheque in the package gets your trigger adjusted and returned.
