Does anyone know of a conversion that can be done to the "modern" Rem 700 safety which would lock the bolt handle down when in the loaded and closed position. I have a couple of the new version 700's and too often find the bolt handle partially up after a rough carry session. I've googled the web, but can't find a thing.

I'm thinking I like my old 700's better.

a simple swap of the safety lever to the bolt locking style, providing your rifle has the small notch under the bolt handle...I think they skip that step nowadays...you could have the notch cut.

You might have to spend big dollars if the action is not milled for the old style safety.

It would be a lot cheaper and safer not to chamber a round if you anticipate a "rough carry session".

Safeties are easily knocked to the fire position in "rough carry sessions"... including the popular Model 70 3 position safety. I think the newer model Ruger 77 safeties seem to be the most "protected" when fully engaged.
