Rem 700 scope mounting options??

Just gettin' started with this kind of shooting.

I have a Rem 700 20in 223 and plan on mounting a fixed 10power Elite scope on it.
Going to do coyote and other varmint hunting and some "tactical" kind of plinking with it.

Looking for reccomendations on a base/ring setup. Thinking a one piece rail would be strong and offer some flexibility with scope positioning??

Looking to keep the price reasonable but get a decent quality setup that will be solid, look good and of course hold it's zero.

PS Obviously looking for a setup I can procure here in Canada without hassle.
 
I like the leupold 2 piece bases myself... always have... as far as rings I am gonna get some flack on this but I always liked the millet rings... if you take your time and do it right they offer fantastic performance.... Le Baron has them near you... I am just south of you also... if you decide to go with my recommendation I can help you with the install.....
 
Leupold PRW rings are one of my favourites. Solid as it gets.

As far as the one piece base, I don't think it is necessary with the short action Savage. Even with the shorter 10 x's fixed scope you should be OK.

Unless you want to get something with some MOA adjustment I would stick to 2 pieces as the one pieces can get pricey.
 
Warne 1 piece base and Burris Signature Zee rings.

You can get the offset ring inserts OT go with a 20 MOA base when you decide you need to go a bit further and have to elevate the rear of the scope.


$150.00 should do it.

The ring inserts also eliminate the need for lapping the rings and alignment issues.

Good lord... unless OP wants to shoot the flea off a yote at 500 yrds what the hell will he do with that?....lol... he can go with leupold 2 piece and millets for under 40 bucks.....

Fancy ass mount swont give a shooter skill... seems like setting up a fella to buy a rig that he can't outshoot....
 
I couldn't agree with ya more, I am a terrible shot no matter what equipment I buy, BUT it does give him flexibility for mounting and if he wants to make upgrades down the road.;)

Aren't we in the precision rifles thread??:D

What is the point of having a so called precision rifle that limits the shooter's abilities? With quality gear that exceeds the shooters abilities, you can at least see if your skills are improving.

The best setup for your Rem 700 is the Alphamount from NEAR. He can hook you up with a 0 (zero) MOA base and make you an Alphamount (one piece ring mount setup) with say 20 or whatever MOA you want.
Give Richard [Near] a call and tell him what you have and he will hook you up.

Cuz I'm sure spending twice the amount he paid for his scope for a mount is exactly what the OP had in mind. The alpha mount should come into play when dealing with NF, SB and other scopes of that caliber . When you won't be upgrading in a few months any way
