Do you know if the barrel on the rem 700 SPS DM is free floating?

I just put a harris bipod on it and it seems to affect the barrel as it used to shoot 1.5" groups at 100 and now it can barely shoot 4".

How do I take it apart? Do I just dremel out the places where the barrel comes in contact with the stock?

Any other advice?

Thanks
Matt

They are often free floated, but not always (that is why they are cheap). Try running a piece of paper along the length of the barrel between stock and barrel. If it will not run freely, remove the rifle from the stock and relieve the parts of the stock that contact the barrel. You may also what to consider bedding the action.

You will need to try the paper trick when the bipod is installed, and some pressure is on it.
Forget the Dremel. There are much better tools for opening out a barrel channel - sandpaper wrapped around a dowel, etc, will do the job.
