Not sure if this is the correct place, but here goes.

I have my eye on an SPS Varmint in 17 Fireball. Does anyone have one? How is it for accuracy? I would want to keep the tupper ware stock on it.

I already have an SPS non varmint in that cal. The cal is becoming my favorite gopher gun.

Looking for your thoughts. Thanks.

Have had one for a couple of years now, it is capable of sub 1.5" groups at 300yds (20gr. V-max H4198 4150fps) It is my current favorite varmint rifle, surprisingly accurate out of the box and fouling is not a problem at all.

The cartridge is a matter of taste, but as for the rifle, I love them. I've owned a couple in 204 and they are terrifc. I like the stocks on them, and my SPS varmints sit completely unmodified (I don't even lighten the triggers) in the safe right beside a rack of custom guns.

Accuracy depends on many things including what phase the moon was in when the guy in the factory made the barrel. Some shoot exceedingly well, others are mediocre... that is true of all factory guns. So far I have had good luck.

17 FB SPS Varmint

Well I have one on order. Should be here in the next day or two. Looking forward to it arriving. hopefully it shoots well. Just spoke to a fello IPSC shooter at a match this weekend and he loves his.

Like I need another Rem, but hey life is short!!

Let you know how it turns out.

Hey man

sorry we did not get together for coffee.

Anyways there Luke I think my 10/22 is going up on the gunnutz auction block and I want a SPS in 204. I just need to pull it out of the safe, give it a teardown cleaning and on the block it goes.

The 243 is still teasing me but I am going to hang on to it.

Talk at you later.

I am not familiar with 17 fireball, but is the rifling as strong as larger caliber rounds? or is it similar to the 17 HMR or 22LR because the round is so small the rifling is not as deep? not trying to take over your thread... just curious.
