Just got my first SPS, a .300 WSM, whatta gun! Almost feel bad pulling it apart for the action... From the horror stories I'd heard about the stock etc I was expecting much worse, this is nice and light and would make one helluva hunting rifle. I opened the box unsure what to expect only to be mildly surprised. :) So for those of you considering an SPS, here's a vote of confidence! Well done Big Green, good gun at a good price. I think I'll buy another now... :)

I too as well prefer the SAUM design, having owned both (7saum is pure awesome, regret selling it often! :()

anyways, about your SPS, is it the matte finished one or the stainless??

I handled a SPS DM in 30-06, and wasn't at all impressed with the finish on the metal. Seemed too cheap (I guess what can a guy expect on a $500 m700)

are you using this action for the 7mm WSSM??

Yeah, this is becomming the 7mm WSSM. I sprung for the matte just to be cheap, I think I'll buy a stainless as my next one. For me I actually kinda like the finish as I'm into tac style rigs, and I found it nice and non reflective. But for a "pretty" hunting rifle, which I certainly appreciate, I have to agree with you it ain't no deep blue. Good and utilitarian though :)

I had my .270 shooting under an inch and took 4 whitetails with it this season. If I were to buy another it would be a stainless one. These beat any of those Stevens anyday :)

Cheers!!

here is my Remington model 700 SPS DM in action. Calibre 7mm Rem Mag. used 160 grain Nosler Partitions for my 2005 whitetail (best pic of the gun i have

The flare on that buck is crazy. Not to ofted you see a buck thats tip to tip spread is also its maximum inside spread. What was the tip to tip on that thing anyways.
