Hey guys, contemplating getting a remmy 700 VS in .223 as my first "precision" rifle (a bear could shoot straighter then me) and was wondering where in Canada can we get aftermarket stocks for these rifles?

You may want to check out Ian Robertson Composites. He makes world class stock and builds them in Canada. He is a forum member as well.

If I were you I would go with the Remington 700 VSF. It's got a 26" fluted heavy barrel, H.S. Precision stock, dual swivel studs on the front to accomodate a bipod, and it just looks bad ass. I'm not sure if the stock is the same one that's on the 700P, but it sure looks like it, only in a different color. If it is the same stock, I can't personally say that it's a pretty good one. I have one of the 700P rifles and I have no issues at all with the stock. The only thing that I have had done to it was to put a new recoil pad on it (with the .223 you shouldn't need that) and I got a McMillin adjustable cheek piece put on it. Right from factory though, I thought that it was pretty good. The stuff I put on it was just to tweek it more to my liking. So in the end, if I were you I would just go with that rifle, put a Leupold scope on it and spend the money at the range rather then on a new stock. If you want a different stock when you get more experienced, then by all means, but right now I think that the H.S. Precision is sufficient.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the 700 VSF .308 the base model for the USMC's M40A1 (before they customize it for their own needs)?

Thats amazing hammerhead, just what I was looking for! What do they run at?
Wholesale sports sells them for about $940, but getting one there is another story. I would expect that you'll pay around the $1000 mark anywhere else.

No.

The USMC builds their own rifles from scratch.

The only part that is Remmington is the reciever/bolt.

SKBY.
