I have a 700 AAC-SD (.308) but not a very big fan of the bolt. I'm looking to either replace the bolt handle with a tactical bolt knob (pictures below for reference) or maybe even replacing the whole bolt.

Can anyone recommend a dealer where I can get a bolt handle like those pictured below, or replace the whole bolt?

Machining the bolt handle to accept one of these oversized knobs is a straightforward procedure. Knobs can be purchased, or custom made.
Replacing the bolt would make no sense. Expensive, fitting needed, and possibly headspace adjusted.

Contact TacOrd. They have those knobs, "badger ordnance" I believe and they can machine them on for you and mail them back. Casey did mine and I highly recommend this shop!

Cool that company seems pretty good. Would putting on a straight bolt handle mean I have to tinker around with the stock to make it fit/work?

I think i might have them do this

I bought one from ATRS and had it installed locally at my gunsmith. ATRS are top notch to deal with. IIRC the total cost including shipping was somewhere around 100 for the knob, and it cost me around another 70 to install. Totally worth it.

Oh and you could also consider the KRG overbolt. One alternative to gunsmithed modification.

It fits over the existing Rem700 Bolt knob. I have tried them out, very well made and very sturdy when on. Very cost effective.

They cost about 30-40$ and no gunsmithing required.

Tac ord sells and install the badger knobs you pictured for a decent price, top notch work. I got two rifles done like that and am very happy.

+1 for Casey at Tac Ord. He did a great job and quick turnaround too. At the time, I paid $100. plus tax and shipping and that included the Badger bolt.

The over bolt looks pretty neat but I think I'll go with tacord. It's weird I couldn't find a straight handle bolt arm (?) anywhere in Canada. The link above had some but only for tika and Savage not. Remington , and just in the US.

There are replacement straight bolt handles. Installing them requires silver brazing or TIG welding. It is easier to alter the factory swept back handle, than it is to change the handle.
For options, look at Pacific Tool and Gauge's offerings. Bolts, handles, knobs.
I use the PT&G jig, to hold bolt bodies in the lathe for machining the shank, and make knobs out of either scrap pieces of barrel or barstock.
The $100 mentioned above to have the shank machined, and a knob supplied and installed isn't bad.

for that amount of work, buying a 1pc bolt from PTG would make more sense.. in terms of some one that wants a straight handle.. probably cheaper for a smith to re-headspace then to time a bolt and weld/braze a new handle on. not to mention very few smiths even do it

The stripped one piece bolt body is US$167, plus whatever it is going to take to get one in Canada. The replacement handle is US$19.95.
I would consider a one piece unit to be preferable to an assembly.
Installing a bolt handle on a Remington type bolt is no big deal. A lot easier than, say, altering a Mauser handle for low scope use.
To install or replace a handle, I use a jig to hold the handle in place; a heat sink screwed into the bolt sleeve threads; a clamp to hold the handle's saddle firmly against the bolt body; paste silver braze; and an acetylene torch. The job takes less than 1 hour, start to finish. Setting the timing is no big deal.
I do not think that replacing a swept handle with a straight one is worthwhile, and as I mentioned, a one piece unit is preferable to an assembled one.
To set up a bolt body in the lathe, machine the knob down and thread the stump, make and install an oversized knob, takes about an hour and a half.

I've done this job myself without any problems. Ordered the bolt knob for $40.00 and installed it using the procedure described here:http://www.700rifle.com/forum/22-how-s-modifications/359-how-badger-ordnance-bolt-knob-install-remington-700-ltr.html If you're a little bit handy, it shouldn't be very hard. It took me couple of hours start to finish. The most time consuming part is grinding the old bolt knob off. Just take your time and don't rush this job and you'll be ok. The threaded part doesn't have to perfect round, it just has to have a good thread on it to hold the knob securely. I used some locktite on the threads when I screwed the knob on. If you have any qualms about doing the work, go to your nearest gun smith and have him do it as mentioned here. Good luck!
