I watched a show on TV[60min i think] that stated the triggers on Remington 700's sometimes fire when you close the bolt . Anyone experience this? I have not but have only owned a couple of 700's. Dan

Yes, I've seen a few Remington 700's with dangerous triggers but they were ALL adjusted improperly by someone who either didn't care or understand the principals of safety. Rem 700 triggers are adjustable but should only be done by a qualified gunsmith.

The few triggers that actually had a problem were about 30 years ago... a few got out of the factory with safeties that did not disengage the cocking piece from the sear... so when the trigger was pulled with the safety on, the sear was actually released but the cocking piece was held back by the safety, then when the safety was released, the firing pin was released and if loaded the rifle would fire.

The vast majority of "700 trigger problems" are directly related to incorrectly adjusted triggers after they left the factory or due to poor maintenance.

A real simple test - do it with an empty chamber... try and dry fire your rifle with the safety on, off, on, off... and slam the bolt closed and try and make it dry fire. This is something that should be done before every hunting season every year with every make of firearm you own.

Never had an issue with Rem triggers going off. Granted I am a CLEAN rifle fanatic. I flush my triggers out with carb cleaner and blow them dry. I shoot them dry as well. Guntech has worked I believe 3 Rem triggers I have and never an issue.

Do the same with Jewell triggers except I will thoroughly disassemble them when I get a new one and Polish the inerds. Then I wash in HOT SOAPY water. It air dries in seconds and I wipe each piece with a small patch with some EEZOX on it. I am good until I feel it may be beginning to act up which so far has been NEVER.

This thread pops up once a month.(at least)
Guess the re-runs are now considered "breaking news".
I know I would go to the companies web site if I where to be informed via the news media of alleged malfunctions.
Tight Groups,
Rob
