rem 700 Vs TIKA

flip a coin, you cant lose IMO

SPS : great action, not as polished and fancy as the Tikka though, trigger easily adjustable down to 2 lbs or so, usually shoot damn good, stocks arent bad for tupperware, great recoil pad, tons of aftermarket options for scope mounts, new stocks, etc etc. Model 700 very gunsmith friendly

T3 : super slick, beautiful triggers, plastic shroud and magazine, bolt release, and triggerguard (only thing I dont like about them), accurate, no aftermarket stocks available if that interests you someday, expensive magazine to replace, recoil pad sucks. Nice rifles though, and they just feel good to me. Ive never owned one, but have loaded for and shot one in 270 WSM, and know a few guys who have them, and they really like them, and get great accuracy.

I think this post pops up about every two weeks

The hunter with the wood stock runs 780 bucks, the T3 Lite with synthetic runs about 699 and the remington 500. Between the 2 you mention, the Tikka is probably nicer, but you will have to decide by handling both and whether you think its work 280 extra.

The Tikka is a great choice if you intend to leave the gun as is.If you have intentions of changing stocks or other components, the 700 is a better choice.

Both are accurate rifles, but if you want the Detachable Mag option, Remington doesn't make one in .308 with a clip. The Tikka is a great gun for the $$ and the clip is down to $77 now, used to be over $100. More polymer parts, but that equals light weight, and has no effect on accuracy, mine shoots under 1":)

Agree they are both accurate rifles, as are most new bolt rifles. Almost every rifle I have owned and shot would shoot near and inch and under, Winchester, Remington, Kimber, Weatherby, Tikka, Sako, savage... The most accurately consistant shooter for me was the Weatherby Vanguard right out of the box. Its more the norm to shoot at the 1" mark nowdays with the almost any new rifle.

Heck, my Enfield Mark 4 shoots right around an inch. It should come down to which rifle you prefer in your hands, select it on fit, feel and quality of the fit and finish and worry less about which rifle is going to get the .50 inch grouping. Unless you want a Benchrest rifle.

Some other point s of interest is a Remington SPS has longer barrel.
24" and 26" for magnums where Tikkas are 22 7/16" and 24 3/8 " for magnums.
Tikka triggers can be adjusted at home very easily vs the Remington which is nice. Tikka triggers are really nice and crisp with no creep vs some Remingtons.
Ive owned 3 T3's and 1 SPS and would go with the Tikka T3. They also gurantee MOA accuracy which is a bonus.

Cheers!!

I would also go with the T-3, especially if you just want to take the rifle out of the box and then go shoot it. I own both and like them both, but the Tikka is a bit nicer finished. The SPS would be good if you plan on upgrading the stock or something later.

Thanks alot guys for the input. Will probably get a Tikka.
Will go check them out at the gun store this week.

Still can't decide what calibre would be the mosta apropriate.
I just want to do some deer hunting.
I want a rifle with the lowest recoil but that will get the job done since I also want to do some range sessions with it.
I guess .308 makes alot of sence since surplus ammo (7.62) is cheap.

Thanks again

Not to sound like an Ass but I have never shot a bad shooting Tikka!

Can't say that about the remington!

I agree with that statement!! They are terrific shooters right out of the box - unfortunately there doesn't seem to be as many aftermarket options for them - not that they need it. :D
