I was wondering if I could get some opinions on these guns. The remington is an older rifle(60's), but was very well taken care of. The Browning is an x bolt hunter that is a couple years old.

Could you give more information and elaborate on the context of your question? Not sure where you're wanting to go with this.

Same chambering? Price? Stainless/Synthetic or Carbon/Wood? Intended use? Scope/Sights?

They'll both probably shoot well, it'll come down to which one you like to hold more. My advice is the 700, if it's in good shape. It's lasted 50 years, no reason it won't make 100. And it's depreciated as much as it ever will.

If you want to do upgrades in the future the 700 is the way to go, also many gunsmiths can work on 700's in their sleep.

Practical use, either will do as long as it fits your frame and is comfortable.

Get the x bolt. Then there is no need to upgrade, today,or in the future.Probably not a good idea to use a gunsmith, who works with his eyes closed.....

I like the feel of the X-bolt.
But I still would side with the 700.

Yes the 700 is far more customizable.
And "I" have never ever seen an X-bolt at a benchrest or a long range tactical shoot.
Thats just my observation.

Browning rifles do nothing for me.If I wanted a nylon bolt sleeve I'd buy an Airsoft gun.The Xbolt may be an improvement over previous Brownings but it still has a DBM system, and I have no use for clips in any form. Mur

Well I think the xbolt is sold, but I'm going to keep my eyes open for another one. From what you guys are saying and other reviews, I think I'm leaning towards the Browning.
Or else I just go buy a new cheaper entry level gun. (savage, mossberg, etc)

I love the trigger on my x-bolt in .270
It is also just a feather lighter than my 700 in .308
Both are spectacular rifles that will shoot well, the owner of mine needs some practice ;)
I find that the recoil pad on my x-bolt takes a shot or 2 to get used to as it is a softer type of material than the 700

I enjoy using a mag with the x-bolt and that is the reason I chose it,
It makes carrying an extra 4 shots very easy in my leg pocket without any noise.
I like the safety on the x-bolt over the 700

If I had to give one up....:puke:
Let's not go there.

You will find that whichever one you choose will serve you well.
Try to use them both before you buy and that will help you get a feel for how they handle.
I hunt with my .270 and my .308 is in the truck in case.
Perhaps it is because I have no sling for my .308, hmmm, have to take the old girl out for a walk, maybe that's why I haven't seen anything

Good Luck with your decision, hope this helped a bit
