I am very interested in this rifle. I am not having much luck finding someone who has bought or shot one. Searches here and elsewhere were negative. Can anyone give me a review? Thanks,

I also asked about these a while back - don't think I've heard anything since... I kinda like the idea of a "stainless LTR" type rifle. For what it's worth, I did see one for sale on the Wanstall's Sporting Goods (Maple Ridge, BC) website a little while back - only it was one of the ones in .223 . Good luck with your search...

I ordered one of these through a dealer here back in January. Waited six months and finally gave up and bought a 700p LTR. AFAIK remington is way behind on production.

I was checking one out yesterday, in 223. very very nice looking rifle, feels real good. they didn't have one in stock in .308, probably a good thing or the creditcard may have gottne some more action

Ive shoot both .223 and the .308.
I felt it was much better suited in .223.
Comparing it with other model 700's i found it lacking for the price tag tho. You get a plain jane stock and the 40X trigger with a fluted barrel. You dont get a lot for the money. I purchased the XCR TLR in .308 and its much better than the short tactical rifle.

Just picked one up in a 308 and having lots of fun with it.

Shoots well out to 200 yards, that's as far as my local range goes. I'm interested to see how it does once I get it somewhere that's say, 500 yards.

We'll see.

Hey Wierdo, what stock does it come with? In the original pics that Remington released when they were first introduced it looks like they had an HS Precision stock (exactly the same ones that come on the LTR's but in a green with black spiderweb colour). But then now I'm hearing that they come with a Bell and Carlson stock?

Cheers,

I have one in .223. It is a fun rifle to shoot but being half way between a plinker and a serious target rifle its either a comprimise that does neither well or something that goes part way to fill both roles depending on your point of view. If you are looking for a serious target rifle you would be better of with a 700p or sps or perhaps a Savage 10fp.

You have to decode what type of shooting you are going to do and then buy the rifle to fill the role.

Not a fan of the compact tactical.
Anything past 500 yards it seems to just not meet the standards that other rifles meet and beat.
Great fun gun tho. If you have no long range shots to do then this is a great rifle.

But look what you can do with one if you have alot of money and time .

Is there any reason the XCR Compact Tactical in 223 could not or should not be rechambered too 22-250?

Yes I understand that the twist rate is 1 - 9" and a 22-250 usually comes in 1 - 14" but I would be happy shooting 60gr and heavier bullets to give that added punch on long range coyotes.

I'm thinking this would make an excellent varmint/predator rifle in the right chambering.

Other than the boltface, feedrails etc being different, and it being a little harder to find loading data for the 22-250 with heavy bullets, no reason it would not work.
I am building a 22-250 for a fellow right now with a 1 in 9 twist barrel specifically TO shoot 69 and heavier grain bullets. the plan being that the bigger bullets with the larger case capacity should allow for far more range.

Rick, me no understand too????

Was out this week enjoying the last few sunny 'warm' days of fall with my Stevens 223. With its sporter contour 22" pipe, I was having no issue dropping them 75gr Amax out to 1050yds in some gusty winds.

Most certainly not a tactical rifle (more a nice coyote rifle actually)but it did a wonderful job on MOA sized boulders.

A short barrel will give you a slightly lower muzzle velocity but certainly not slow enough to drop you subsonic at 500yds. If it did, you might want to add a bit more powder.

I don't know whats up with these "short" barrled rifles. My shorty 308 must be broken, it keeps shooting really really far. I think I need a refund Rick, or a longer barrel. Do you think we can take a piece of left over barrel, thread it and put it on the end of my barrel...hehe.

Just bugging you dude. Me and others...have found that 20 or 21 inch barrelled 308's do just fine way out there. Its all about the bullet. It was mystics shoot that my 21 inch barrelled rifle made 3 confirmed hits out to 1500 yrds on a 1 moa target. Yes the clouds opened, the wind stopped and everything was perfect. 3 shots in a row, 71 MOA to get there, and yes I stopped after 3 cause I didn't want to screw up the count, but it happened. Me, Rick and other shooters regularly take or shorty 308's out and shoot gongs at anywhere from 800-1000+. So from my/our experience, the shorties do just fine at range, in my experience anyways.
