I picked up a used 7600 from the EE recently to give the pump platform a try. I have owned a 7615p before in 223, but I wasn't all that impressed.

This one is chambered in a favorite of mine, 35 Whelen. It has definitely been a working rifle and I wouldn't be surprised if it spent some time in a saddle scabbard based on the wear.
I took it apart, scrubbed it up (needed it) and tested some dummy rounds, trigger broke clean at about 4lbs. Seemed all good and funtioned fine, so off to the range.

I dont have a scope for it yet, so I just used the factory sights. With a target set up at 100y I cranked off a test shot and was happy to see it made it on the paper. The sun was too bright for the sights so I moved my target up to the 75yd line and punched 5 more holes.

First time shooting this rifle. No scope, no break between shots (other than reload), 32 degrees out and sunny.

The Hornady load chrony'd at 2910fps

I still have to get used to the pump action rifle platform, but I'm impressed so far!

Congratulations. Good shooting !
I've been a fan of the 760/7600's since the mid 70s. Shot a pile of deer with a 760 in .308. I currently have a 7600 in .35 Whelen as well.Generally shoot reloads but have a box of those Superformance as well. Nice to know the actual chronograph ed speed.

The 7600 in 35 whelen is an awesome combination. I have the twin to yours and have no regrets about buying it.
If you are anything like myself, once you get used to the pump platform, you may find the use of pump actions almost addictive!!!!

The 7600 with its free floating barrel is plenty accurate alright. I have a .243 that will absolutely drive tacks with just about any 100 grain load. Can't beat them for fast follow up shots either.

I had one in .30-06 and it was a good shooter. I always managed to get 1.95" (give or take a 1/4") groups at 200yds with 180gr power points from winchester. The only thing I didn't like on it was the slide release and mag release. I always forgot which one was which (in the field) and must have dumped my magazine on the ground at least a hundred times. The magazine bottom was a mangled mess when I finally traded it off for a pistol. Other than that minor issue, I loved the gun.

I have had a 760 for more years than I care to remember. It always shot very well, in fact , well enough to make more than one bolt action guy mad. You have joined a very exclusive club, welcome , and enjoy that rifle....catnip.

hang on a minute!!!!

2900 FEET PER SECOND from a Whelen!?!?!?! No Wonder they are the Ducks Nuts!

I don't chrono my stuff but id only used 225 and 250, but my 250s are like 2400..... 2900 for 200s makes it .... Fricken unreal!!!

Hows the rifles weight mate?

Glad you like your new Whelen!!

It weighs a hair over 7lbs. With the lower comb than I'm used to the Superformance ammo does get your attention, but it's no worse than a 12ga shooting buckshot (actually quite similar).

I recently picked up a 7600 carbine in .35 Whelen and really like it. Congratulations on your new acquisition.
