im normally not one of those people that chimes into a thread and tries to talk someone out ofthe rifle/caliber they have their mind made up on. however in this case i just have to say something to try and 'save' you
honestly if you are in the market for a new .270, consider both the:
Savage 111FCXP3 Bolt Action Rifle with Scope .270 Win. - $399 at SIR mailorder.
Stevens Model 200 Bolt Action Rifle .270 Win - $299 at SIR mailorder.
they charge no PST and about $15 for shipping.
to put it bluntly the Remington 710/770 is a POS. it trades upon the Remington 700 name and legacy of reliability and accuracy but in fact it has almost nothing to do with these rifles and completely redesigned with the sole purpose of making it as cheap to produce as possible.
both the Savage and Stevens are essentially the
exact same barrel and action as the high end Savages. the tradeoff is
not in reliability, durability or accuracy but rather due to a barebones stock, no accutrigger, and a plain utilitarian finish. later on if you so choose all of the Savage accessories, barrels, stocks, etc will fit.
the Remington 710/770 is a piece of crap that is made mostly of plastic and intended for the average Joe hunter who will fire 2-3 shots a year to fill his tag. it shares nothing at all with the Remington 700s.
if you are hellbent on a Remington i recommend you spend a little bit more on the lowest end Remington 700 SPS and get a rifle that will last you a lifetime as opposed to modern 'disposable' junk.
