rem 78 vs 700

what is the difference between the rem 78 action and the 700? i have a couple 78 actions and was looking at doing some builds with them. i have have looked at them side by side and only see the lack of an anti bind slot on the 78.

I think the actions are near identical, unless you mean the Remington "788" action?

no it is the sportsman 78 action, plain jane wood stock, no floor plate model

a 700 with another name, built from the cancellation of the 788 in 1984 until 1988. They have a smooth bolt knob like some ADL's had.
I'm surprised they don't have the anti-bind slot. I thought all 700's had it by 1984

yes, they are basically a 700 adl, with a satin low gloss bluing and they are great for building on!

I have a 30 BR that should be nearing completion soon. I used a 78 action as the base. I sent it to Dennis Sorenson for a truing job. Amazing work.
This particular action was the smoothest of all that I owned. Not pretty but its gonna work great.
