Not sure if this is the place to post this but i picked up a rem 788 in 222cal its a beater i need a mag and a bolt for it. My question is should i restore it or would this be good to build on ??

788's are accurate rifles, but not at the top of the pile for investing in. Getting a bolt and a mag (unless you are very lucky) would pretty much equal the value of the gun, maybe a little more. They can be built into a nice accurate rifle (I have a half dozen or so) but if you have to pay someone else to do the work it is a bad investment. FWIW - dan

Mags are easy enough to get from Numerich Gun Parts, but bolts. Ouch!
Let me know when you find an extra bolt in 223 boltface. I'll buy it!

I'm actually converting a .22-250 action to 7.62x39 for my deer gun and just waiting on a Shilen barrel for it. They are sweet actions and accurate.

I modified my 788 .223 trigger and now I can get it down to a crisp 1 lb. This rifle easily shoots sub .5 MOA with Berger 52grs and all factory except the modded trigger. My favourite coyote gun.

Are they worth rebuilding? Oh yea they are if you understand what you're getting into and what you want from it.

Yup i have to agree with dan on this one, mags are getting expensive, not sure about bolts. If it`s in rough shape i`d pass. I have a Canjar set trigger on mine that is cost more than the rifle. Great guns for the time but i wouldn`t spend a lot on one these days.
