Rem 788 :(

I have two. One I bought new in 1980 (222Rem). Will shoot under 3/4" at 100 yds. The second is a much harder to find 30-30 Win. Only have seen two in total. Always wanted one in 30-30 for a cast bullet rifle. Haven't shot it much but it doesn't shoot as well as I think it should.(2-3" at 100 yds). Will try some Horn A-Max's when I get the time. Dealer I bought it from (since closed) also had one in 44mag. They certainly aren't pretty and the triggers are heavy but in general they are quite accurate. Good used ones usually have an asking price around $450-500

Rem 788's

BTW, I have one in 7mm-08. Factory 'carbine' with 18.5" barrel. I changed out the beatup factory stock for a 'drop-in' Ramline black synthetic back in the day when the Ramlines came with a Pachmayr decelerator installed. Just for giggles I tried it just as is with no bedding etc. Dang thing is an honest MOA @ 100 yards just as is. A 'keeper'......

Have also had 788's in .308 and .30-30 in the past but sadly sold them before I appreciated what I had..... :(
