Was wanting to get a slug barrel with cantilever and wondering about whether the forend wood would have to be changed out for the larger size slug barrel ? Where only the light conture barrels slimmed down to cut weight or the 870 receivers as well? Harold

As far as I know any 870 barrel new or used will work on your Wingmaster with no altercations needed and it's which size receiver you have which determines the length of shell you can use.

Check your serial number for which receiver you have.
S - Super magnum 3 1/2"
M - Magnum 3"
V - 2 3/4" only

No its the barrel which determines the size of shell. You cannot stick a 2 3/4" barrel on an 870 magnum receiver and shoot 3" shells.

I know my magnum action will fit it ............it's that the barrel diameter on the LC barrel is smaller than a regular 870 barrel so the wood may be too tight on the forend and need changed out to a regular sized piece of wood.

This has nothing to do with chamber .light contort barrels are thinner then normal 870s.i can see why he is asking. I have never tried to fit a regular barrel on a light contorted shotgun.take it with you to your local long gun store and ask to try a slug barrel on your gun

Might be the shortest distance to the answer I guess.Just that so many stores these days don't like anyone bringing in guns cased or otherwise. If I have to buy a different forend it will leave a rather large gap when the bird barrel is re-installed.Harold

Cannot speak of the 870 but I know for a fact that a forend made to fit an 11-87 with a LC barrel will not fit onto a slug barrel. A buddy recently picked a slug barrel for his 11-87 and his original forend did not fit. Thankfully, I found a standard synthetic forend for him on the EE and it works fine. Remington does not make LC slug barrels, just standard ones. Again, I'm talking about an 11-87 not an 870 but I wouldn't be surprised if the same applies to it. I'm sure there are people out there who sand and/or Dremel the LC forend to fit but making it slightly oversized does not help with the fit once placed on the field LC barrel again.
