That must be a recent development. The 887 that I owned briefly came with flush RemChokes which fit properly in the barrel. The 887 barrel itself is steel but has a plastic coating to prevent corrosion. If Remington is providing extended chokes with the gun then that is what you should probably use in it.The chokes that came with the gun are the extended type,easily changed without a tool.
It just doesn't look right !
The standard 870 chokes recess into the plastic barrel by about 1/8 ".
I can imagine the shot blast fraying the barrel end.![]()
