I'm new to the shotgun scene and rescently picked up an 870, 18" barrel. I'm trying to pull the barrel, but it won't seem to budge. I've removed the mag extension and in the manual the action is 1/2 open. I thought that perhaps the serrated band that sits over the mag gets unscrewed but doesn't seem too, any tips would be extremely helpful. TIA

I think you only got part of the mag estension off. You need to remove the collar also. This is the part that you described as serrated.

Put the butt on the floor with the barrel facing upwards. Push down on the barrel hard and unscrew the collar (counter-clockwise when you are looking from the muzzle end).

Good luck!

This fellow's on the money I believe, when the barrel's ready to come off, you should have only mag tube threads above the barrel ring.

Deja vu! I couldn't get the thing to budge; this is what I did. I took the magazine extension tube out, unscrewed it and it shot out at me. Then I took a shirt, put it around the "screwed on" part with the "riples"...you know, the plastic piece that's hard to get off? Put something soft on it as to not damage it. Then get some pliers, grip it and TWIST THAT THING!!!!

Eventually it'll come loose...then your barrel will come off. Trust me I had the exact same problem (see my thread ) :D
