I'm a bit of a guru with the Mossberg 500 but the Remington is a not a model I'm very familiar with so hoping for a Remmy guru in the group.
This week I was the range with a couple of people. One of their Remington 870s would "lock up" after firing. Basically the slide would not come back. Wiggling it forward with some forward movement seemed like may have helped a couple times, but that wasn't a reliable solution. Brute force was mostly the solution.
At first I blamed ammo but the base of the shot shells looked and measured normal. Also happened with different ammo so I don't think that's the problem.
A fairly thorough cleaning didn't fix the problem. Nothing looked obviously wrong - chamber looked smooth, etc. This was happening with 2 3/4 target shot loads, 2 3/4 low recoil slugs and full power 2 3/4 slugs.
One thing I did notice is that the side saddle shell carrier on it was held in at the front (trigger?) pin. The pin maybe looked a little short as it wasn't flush with the frame of the gun. Anyone have thoughts? Wish I had photos...
