I got a pretty new (20 rounds fired, he bought it new in 2005) Rem 870 Express Magnum Synthetic from a friend's brother. My question is, does it come with the different chokes, or do I have to purchase them on my own? I'm just wondering coz it wasn't in the box when he gave it to me, and if there were, I'm sure he just forgot.

They usually come with a Mod choke only.

Thanks guys, that's the information I need. There's no choke on mine, so I bet he forgot to give that to me. No choke wrench either...?

The choke wrench you get with the express is nothing to bragg about either. Just a flat piece of steel. You say it has no choke at all? I hope he wasn't shooting it without a tube, or you'll be in for a new barrel, or a cut down cylinder. Better check the condition of the threads in the barrel.

I think I remember reading somewhere that the rim on a 12ga shotshell can double as a choke wrench. Only reason I can't tell ya for sure, is because I haven't actually tried it on mine yet.

if it's an original 870 barrel from the last 8 or 9 years it should be threaded for rem chokes. they are interchangeable with fixed choke 870 barrels however and if you bought it used someone may have switched barrels first.

Perhaps a fair question would be which model you have. Both mine and my wife's 870 Express Magnum Synthetics with 18" barrel did not come with a choke or wrench. Barrel is 18" Cyl Bore and no factory threading. Both bought brand new. Remington's website indicates some of the other Express Magnum Synthetic versions have chokes though, usually much longer barrels.

Well, mine is the 28" model, and I quote the sticker-ed proof of purchase from the back of the instructions:

"Mod Choke Tube in Barrel"

On the top it also says: "Pump Action Shotgun 28" Barrel 12 Ga. Rem Choke"

Hmm... still a mystery for now. I think I found the choke wrench though.

on mine? or in mine? When you look at/in the muzzle end. what do you see? Threads? or tube inserted? If it is an express barrel 28 inches, it will be threaded?

So the choke tube is in place?

Can you see it in there with four little notches for the wrench to take hold?
