Rem 870 EXPRESS SYNTHETIC TACTICAL how is the quality of this model?
Does any one have any other suggestions for other brands that are comparable?
thanks in advance

What do you mean by "quality"?

It's a good, reliable shotgun with black matte finish and synthetic stock. The other, most common option is the Mossberg 500, which is also a good shotgun. The tactical version have ghost rings, which I like.

I prefer the 870 over the Mossberg (I've owned both).

870's are all good guns that usually don't jam and will last forever. That's all that can be answered as far as "quality" is concerned IMO.

Cliff: If you like the look, go for it. It won't break and it won't jam.

Go to a gun store and play with both. Like a pair of shoes, you will get a good idea of what works better for you once you try them. Both are good budget priced shotguns.

I'm an 870 guy, but I've been looking at the Mossberg 930 autoloader with some interest.

Unfortunately I can't back up the claim that the 870 will last forever. My early 90s 870 magnum recently went to the gun smith with a broken ejector spring and one of the shell stops fell out. These parts are riveted to the receiver and are not something that the average person can repair. I've heard that the Mossbergs are easier to repair, but I can't speak from experience.

Either way, going with a common gun will give you options for upgrades and repairs that you probably won't get if you buy something less common.

My second last trip to WSS involved me fondling a tactical express, and a mossberg 590-a1. I went home with the 590-a1. I'm so far pleased with that decision. I already own an 870 Super Mag and a DA 8.5" griz. I think the 590-a1 would make an excellent choice for the TEOTWAWKI. To be fair, they are all very reliable, wonderful firearms, but that would be my choice. I haven't even fired it yet, and the action is already smoother than both the other two, the Super Mag has roughly 500 rounds, the Griz is around 100.
