Rem 870 Express & Wingmaster compatibility

Are the barrels of a new 870 Express compatible and interchangeable with a 15 year old Rem Wingmaster ?

Assuming both are 12 guage, are the barrels of similar strenght etc, will they fit each other ?

They should. Swapped a buddies older wingmaster barrel with my express receiver without problems.

the 3" barrel from my 90's Express will go on my 1956 ADL Wingmaster but it is not a perfect fit. very hard to get on and off.

Yep. But you'll need to buy an express magazine cap to go with the barrel. The Wingmaster cap uses a different lock system and will loosen with firing.
