FWIW:

IMHO folding stocks are a complete waste of time and money.

You can't get a good cheek weld and a few cut the cheek on recoil. They hurt.

Most are loose, and some are difficult to open and close, and they are slow to operate.

This being said, there is a place for them, BUT only if you need them. ie. space resrictions in an aircraft.

RePete.

+1 for Repete.

If it's simply for the "look cool factor" try a bunch and see if you'd want to own one. My guess is you wouldn't, but YMMV.

If it's a case of needing a short shotgun due to space limitations, maybe look into the Brobee style and a 14 inch barrel.

Perhaps I should explain a little more. Yes, folding stocks suck. You have no idea how much I detest a folding stock on a shotgun. However, I need a bear stopper that will fit in an old fabric covered Piper. I am trying to keep the overall length under 30 inches. I would prefer not to have to break the gun down to achieve this. I will also not resort to an overfolder. To this end I have an 870 with the 18" bbl. and the Buttler Creek stock. I am willing to ditch the stock and replace it with a better one - but are there any better? In photos on the net they all look about the same. I don't want to throw good money after bad, and if there is no difference in offset, flex or other attributes then I will bite my tongue and keep the existing stock. If I can improve the situation, I will.

Just out of curiosity, why not a top-folder?
I have a Remington "Law Enforcement Only" marked top folder that is very solid. Not terribly comfortable, but functional and is kept at around 27" OAL with my 18 inch barrel
