Hey guys. I picked up a new fore end for my 870 and the old one is is being stubborn. any tips on how to get that piece off the back of the fore end tube? Mine's very sticky and I don't want to wreck the part. Thanks.

If you mean the nut, there is a tool for it, or what I did was use a pair of needle nose pliers. The fore end was tight to get off but I just tapped it with the rubber handle of the pliers.

Thanks, PJ. I actually tried a wrecking bar in a vice, which fit the grooves. Couldn't budge the thing. Would some WD 40 help I wonder?

It can't hurt. Personally I've found that Liquid Wrench works better than WD-40. If you're not worried about scuffing the fore end, try putting it in the vise, stick the wrecking bar in the grooves, and put a long wrench on the bar for extra leverage.

I want to ask if you're turning it the right way, but I don't want you to think I'm insulting you. lol

Thanks, guys. A local gun dealer leant me a tool. I'm going to soak the threads in Break Free for a day and see if I can budge it. Can't wait to get the new forend on...tacticool grip to go with the knox stock!!

Bad boy. Cool tool in the link. How much torque can you put on that one?

i have 60lbs on it and no movement as i only had a little torque wrench.
Id as prob 100lbs as its 416 stainless steel

The little tool doesn't work nearly as well as a larger tool.

I recommend this:

REMINGTON/MOSSBERG FOREND WRENCH

* Mfr:BROWNELLS
* Piloted To Prevent Stock Or Nut Damage

Wrench adapted from Remington factory design, with pilot that keeps “teeth” square to the forend nut, virtually eliminating damage to wrench, forend or forend nut. But, if one of the wrench teeth should ever break, turn the “sleeve” around, there’s another set. Models for Rem. 870 or Mossberg 500.

I've come across several stubborn ones. ... and I use the correct tools for the job. :)

Make sure you have the fore-end clamped in a vice securely and are not afraid to apply some serious leverage to the nut. If you break the fore-end, probably doesn't matter as you likely want to remove it to replace with another? Yes?

Don't clamp it by the rails. The soldering is not very forgiving to twisting.

Hey, all. In case any of you can't sleep because you didn't get the end of the story, here it is. A buddy of mine who owns a local gun shop here in the Annapolis Valley soaked it in Breakfree, but did a way better job than I did. Here's the finished product.
