I have been watching EE and looking online yet my limited tech skills are not helping...anyone know where to find a Rem 870 12 g receiver. Other than buying the complete shotgun just to tear it down for the receiver...any alternatives....I called a few of this sites sponsors with no luck..cheers...wolf

I have never seen stripped receivers (new) for sale anywhere, and they certainly are not offered in the Remington catalog. I would bet that if they were listed, they would cost much more than a used Rem 870 anyways. So you might as well look for a good used gun and get all the spare parts for free.

I’m looking for the same thing as I have a spare barrel and stock set, I’ve seen a few on the EE. They’ve either been in need of a full refinish or are overpriced, or are grizzly or Hp9 receivers. Which an either not accept Remington barrels or have them index incorrectly. I’m going to have a look at some upcoming gun shows and have a chat with one of my local gun shops.

There is a guy here on CGN who periodically posts a few semi-stripped 870s, mostly just missing the barrel and furniture. Gots by Ratrod or something like that

I've gotten a few off him in the past.

Barrels and stock sets are so plentiful for that gun that there is almost no value in them, such that selling a receiver is worth about the same as a whole firearm.

Most people selling a receiver would have enough spare parts that they would just offer it as a whole gun.

Your best bet is to find some ugly and unpopular 870 that has been sitting on the EE for a long time, and then make an offer that you think is appropriate. Think of it as the receiver you want with a free stock set and barrel.

I often see older 870 wingmasters for sale $350...
shotgun $350
Sell 30” barrel $100
Buy 12-18.5” barrel for 150-250.

For less than $500 bucks you have a solid shotgun. I typically build my 870’s on wingmaster receivers and build solid 12-14” barrelled shotguns for around $400 all in.

I see 870 receivers in the EE whenever I look it seems. You're way more likely to find older Wingmaster ones, which will accept 2-3/4" shells. Some Wingmaster Magum receivers pop-up from time-to-time, but expect to pay way more. You're not as likely to find an Express receiver because for the most part...fewer people want the duller-finished barrels, or cheaper-wood stock sets they come with..so fewer guys parting those out.

I bought an 870P a few years ago from a CGN sponsor. Overpaid for it too. I like it..but if I was doing it again, I'd start with a regular old 870 Wingmaster receiver..and build one. I'd also likely get the whole works parkerized if the bluing was in rough shape. A minty receiver? Would be hard to pass on a classic "police" looking build.
