I have a rifle up for sale or trade and a guy responded (Might even be a member here?) with a trade, A 3” chambered 870TB wingmaster. Looks to be very clean. Wood looks very nice. Shotguns aren’t my thing, so doing some digging online.

OEM Rem barrel has been replaced with a “Hastings“ branded barrel, two of them actually,30” and a 34”.
I don’t need the barrels. I already have a long barrelled 12g, id like a shorty.

We both assume that TB is “trap barrel”. Seems logical anyway. Is a TB something special or odd? Command a premium or is it a run of the mill 870?

I can’t figure out what 14” or 18” barrel might work. From what I’ve read a super mag barrel won’t work.
Apparently there is some differences in how the barrel retaining nut screws on. I just don’t know the differences between the two.

A side by side photo of the two might Types would help if anybody has one. I’ve tried Google, but not getting what I’m looking for with the search terms I’m using.

The cap on the TB has four slots machined into it, if that makes a difference.

Any 870 barrel that fit a standard length mag tube should fit an 870, some older Wingmaster’s were setup for 2 3/4” shells only due to the barrel’s chamber and ejector. You can put a 3” chambered 870 barrel on an older Wingmaster and it will load and shoot 3” shells. It might have no problem ejecting a 3” shell depending on the ejector from what I gather, will function fine with 2 3/4” loads.

So if it’s an 870 pretty much any length of 870 barrel will fit on it, except for the 870 tactical barrels that fit on the factory one piece extended mag tube. The barrel ring is in a different spot and it can’t be locked in place.

Any 870 barrel will fit. T refers to the fact that its a purpose built trap gun and B refers to the grade of wood. Should have pretty nice wood on it. The fact that it has two Hastings barrels tells me that it came from a serious trap shooter although 870's are pretty old school these days for trap.

Thanks for the info. Yes, wood is very nice. IMO, better than a run of the mill 870. He’s trying to figure out the year of manufacture
