My 16yr old son had an 887 NitroMag. Took it to the range to shoot trap with it. After firing a cartridge he 'shucked' the slide and the gun totally jammed up. I took it apart to find that the bolt had come off its rails and also bent the frame. Sent it back to Remington for warranty work and they said THEY COULDNT FIX IT. The rep was going to replace it. I pleaded that they replace the POS with a proper 870. Rem did give him an 870, although it also manged to jam on its first use. I thought they were indestructible. After taking the barrel off I managed to clear the jam for him. No problems since.
May I just reiterate the words of many other board members by saying that the quality of Remington is slipping very quickly. Personally, I've owned twenty-something guns and rifles. I've needed warranty work only three times and each time it was a Remington (an 887-12g, a 597-.22lr, and a Rem-Marlin GBL)
