Are rumours true that express and Wingmaster are being discontinued in favor of a middle of the road fieldmaster grade line of pump action guns? Apparently management doesn't want to compete with 250$(us) Turkish and Mossberg arms anymore and want to focus efforts on higher quality products...

The statement is that the Express line has been discontinued in favour of the Fieldmaster, I haven't heard any comments about the Wingmaster line. It would stand to reason that either Wingmasters also get dropped or, to maintain differentiation, get moved further upscale, into the realm of Custom Shop guns.

If true my wingmasters just doubled in price :)
But far from the truth except for my 28ga's
fix the link

My two cents...
If I owned Remington I would drop the express name.
It has too many bad vibes associated with it.
Just make an "870" and go up from there (wingmaster, wingmaster tc, etc.)
I don't think they need to compete with the Turkish pumps.
The people who want the cheapest pump gun available will seek it out and find it.
The 870 name has lots of draw.
Make it well, and charge well for it, and people will want it.

It was like two days ago someone was talking about them seeing a "new" Remington ... an Upscale Sportsman .
Chasing disposable guns was a waste of time because some bean counter said so and eventually the Investors bought into that idea.
So, time will tell how this round of marketing plays out.

Hopefully it sells well. Wasn't that long ago that I saw a new 870 Express for sale at a retailer for about $419. I think the challenge will be convincing people (familiar with the brand/models) that this new gun ISN'T merely an Express with a nicer stock set for $200+ more.

I like the reviewer's comparisons between old and new. It is extremely hard to please gun customers and stay in business. Firearms are the ultimate durable good. When a new company is relying on deeply felt consumer motivations and prejudices, it is really hard to sell new products.

Remington only needs to add two more masters to it's name, bankruptcy master and cavemaster. Between going bankrupt numerous times and now caving in with a $73,000,000 settlement on Sandy Hook they definitely have that figured out. I highly doubt the Fieldmaster is going to resurrect their name or the 870 line of pumps from the grave.

Only the name remains. The old Remington is dead. The new Remington is a brand. Just like Dodge doesn't make trucks. Ram makes trucks.

Good to see Rem getting a more focused approach on the 870. Good riddance to the Express units. I hope Rem comes out with a 3 1/2" chambered model with a .775 bore tube for clay & turkey use like the Mossberg 835. My former 835 produced the best patterns that I've ever shot along with an average of 50 fps gain in velocity using 3 dram 1 1/8 oz loads.
