I tried it with the J-lock plunger and the safety had too much slop for my liking. The ball detent and spring make the gun exactly like the pre-J-lock guns.BRAMEL said:I replaced Two and it worked just fine with the j-lock plunger and spring......Just replaced the safety button.

On the gun I tried it on the safety didn't have the same feel as my other non-J Remingtons. It was a little looser and required less pressure to remove. I found firmer resistance with the ball detent although I will confess to being picky about things like that. For the minimal extra cost I think getting the ball detent and longer spring worth the trouble.BRAMEL said:I didn't notice any difference in mine.
A hunting acquaintance took the same approach. He forget it was there, forgot he had locked it and forgot the key when he got to camp. We conducted a little field expedient Leatherman surgery and got him up and running again. Thankfully, he made the discovery while in camp. I would not have wanted to disassemble his safety assembly while sitting in a blind or in a boat.madtrapper143 said:I just ignore the J lock. After awhile you just forget it's there.
