Have a 4 year old Remington LTR in .308.

Bought a new R3 recoil pad to install on it.

The factory recoil pad does not have any screw access points.

Don't know if its glued on or what.

Any suggestions on changing it?

Hey schatzler,

I have not taken my recoil pad off, but have heard that the best way to do this is to leave the butt in the freezer for a couple of hours and pull off the old recoil pad, which will allow you to access the screw points.

I have been thinking of doing the same thing - which R3 recoil pad did you buy, and how does it fit on the stock?

Gotta say that on hot summer days of shooting prone in a t-shirt...my shoulder gets sore!

I bought a new Rem. (similar wt. and recoil energy) that has the R3 and I can tell a difference with felt recoil.

More of a push than a snap.

Found the same thing in Trap shooting. Maybe not a huge deal at 50 rounds, but at 100 rounds you can tell a difference.

I'm also interested in increasing the LOP on my LTR. So it's glued.... damn.

Can the butt be pierced easily to add a new recoil pad with screws?

The pad IS glued on, the stock is hollow inside as well. I cut the old pad off then fill the cavity with foam until there is 3/8" of room from where the pad goes on then fill the rest with fibergalss resin and kevlar wool.
Once it is set up this will take screws to hold the new pad on real well.
