Hi,
A friend just bought a used Remington model 7 (synthetic stainless). He called me to ask if they are usually free floated from the factory? The reason is that upon close examination he noticed that there was some tape between the barrel and stock at the front to make a pressure point and when he took the stock off there was also a single layer of duct tape at the very rear under the action. I can understand trying a pressure point but have never heard of tape under the action rear. Any comments would be welcome from Model 7 owners.

They come with 2 factory pressure points at 5 and 7 oclock from the factory. Sounds like the rifle was owned by bubba at one point.

Grouser,
I haven't heard of placing tape under the tang either..

How does the rifle shoot?
I own three M7's with factory synthetic stocks..
One shot well..
One not worth a poop so I replaced it with a Wildcat stock..
And the last one is still in it's synthetic stock and it is a little fussy shooter..
I plan on restocking it with a old wood M7 stock this summer to see if things improve..
Your friend has the making's of a very neat little lwt. rifle in a great cartridge..

We will try to take it to the range some day this week. I removed the bubba'd pressure point and tang tape. I will take material to install pressure point if necessary --- this will be a deer gun so anything around 1" at 100 will be fine for his type of hunting. I'm about to buy the same thing in 7mm-08 if I can't find a Browning X-bolt in said calibre.
I am aware of the issues with barrel heat up in these guns and will confine the groups to 3 and waiting for a cooldown period. I hope most of the snow has melted off by the time we go. Don't know why some makers quality/accuracy are not consistant while others in the same price point are.
Thanks for the input!
