Hi, I just bought a brand spankin new Remington Mountain DM in .260 today:dancingbanana: . After reading up on this calibre I decided to buy it. I have never shot the .260 before, anyone have experience with this cartridge? Suggestions for best accuracy / weight of bullet and type? I am just getting into reloading, but probably won't start until the new year. So, cartridge choices / types will be factory for the present time. Any constructive suggestions would be appreciated.

Oh, by the way check out my for sale posting. Six rifles up for sale, I have to pay for this .260, so stuffs got to go :D . I figure the .260 can take the place of a few rifles.

Thanks, Arch :)

pick up some Remington CorLokt 140 gr, probably the best bet for hunting. The Federal 140 gr Sierra Gameking load would work too, but Ive used the bullet on one deer, and wasnt all that impressed with its weight retention and penetration, although it *did* flatten the buck in his tracks :)

The 129 gr Hornady Interlock SP is a good inexpensive hunting bullet, as is the 140 gr Interlock. Ive shot deer with the 140 Partition, 140 Sierra, and 130 gr Barnes TSX. I have had very rapid results with all, and currently use the TSX. As soon as Nosler sends me some 130 gr Accubonds, Ill be trying those.

Ive been loading and shooting the 260 Rem for about five years now :runaway: time flys :D

I'll second the 140 remmies too. I used them this spring while Bear hunting as my dies hadn't shown up yet.
My 260 shoots them well.....certainly well enough for Hunting purposes.

Factory ammo is "limited" indeed but there is enough available for most situations. I now am shooting 125 gr Nosler Partitions .........
I'll let you know how they work on Deer, Moose and maybe a Bear later this year:p ;)
The 260 is the "Handloader's Cartridge" !
Enjoy your New Toy:)

I have had two of them and my bullet of choice is the 125 gr partition. I have had mixed results with the TSX's, can't get them close enough to the rifling for the best accuracy due to the short remington magazine box. The 125 gr partition load has been discontinued, but if you can find them anywhere buy them. After you start reloading it's easy, 45 gr of H4350 and you are good to go. A buddy of mine has neck and back problems, he can't handle recoil, I loaded some of these for him to get his moose this year.

I've got 2 pet loads.

(1) 125 grn Partition, 48.5 grn H4831sc, Rem 9 1/2 primer. Haven't chronied this one but suspect it is around 2800 fps. MOA. The short cut powder on this one is preferrrable as it is compressed and the sc settles better in the case.

(2) 130 grn TSX, 43 grn H4350, Rem 9 1/2 primer, 2840 fps, MOA. This is my go to hunting load for this calibre. I'll take anything walking with this load, including moose and elk at reasonable ranges.

I've got a Rem SS DM rifle as well. I've got both bullets as far as possible but able to fit in the mag. Aas below, try to pick up the 140 grn Rem CL.

get ready for this 303carbine

moose with a 260? probably 250-300 yards is a sensible max, loaded with a premium 130-140 gr bullet. Ive never done it, but someday Im sure it'll happen.

I'll let you know Nov 1st :dancingbanana:
God willing ? ;)

Martin,
I don't know if the TSX is like the older Barnes bullets, but I know Barnes recommended at least .050" to .090" distance from the lands for best accuracy. If you haven't already, you might try that.
I've thought several times about selling my .280 Rem and my .257 Roberts and doing it all with a .260 Mountain Rifle. Thoughts on this?

Absolutely NO hesitation for that one TB!!:dancingbanana:
Great round, and I may chamber a rifle in it sometime.

I have loaded the 6.5X55, and 260 for many different fellas, and they have no problem at those ranges.
The 6.5X55 usually get 160's however.
