Rem R-25 ???

While I'm not a fan of the real tree finish I still had to take a look at one of the R-25 rifles. I saw it on the shelf for $1500.00.

The fit of the upper to the lower was perfect (actually better than my DPMS which has a tiny bit of wobble). The trigger wasn't bad at all. I was pleasantly surprised. I thought this rifle might be a DPMS, partially because it uses DPMS mags. But after looking at it. I think it could be a modified Armalite AR-10 that uses DPMS mags instead?

If it wasn't restricted it would be a good hunting rifle. For the range I'd like to have a thicker fluted bull barrel preferably with a "target" crown rather than a "hunting" crown. Whatever the heck a "hunting" crown is.

Neat rifle, not bad at all.

TSE has the R-25 for $1399.00 I believe. I have handled it and a few others have handled it, including afficionados on the AR design. Most have said that the R-25 is made at DPMS's facility for Remington. I popped out the BCA and had a look, it's just like an AR BCA but BIG. It feels good in the hands and is easy to move with. The rail, as far as I can tell, is a M1913 Rail.

However when you pop the mag in or release the bolt it rings just a little bit. I suspsect that comes from the handguard around the free-floating barrel. One guy even said he is sorely tempted to buy one and use it for a project to make a SASS-like rifle.

It looked fairly different compared to my LR-308. But after checking the DPMS website, I can see which rifle it was modeled after:

Here's the Arctic Cat in .223. Same hand guard, and gas block. Just different colours (Also this one is in .223). This colour scheme looks pretty good.

I want an R-25.

I have a scope for it just sitting too. A Falcon 4-14. Should be a decent scope for the gun.

And I have tons of 168gr match ammo just waiting to be fed though it. ;)

Just paid for a 4-14 tonight. I've got one of my 4.5-18 Falcons on it right now. I also put an Ace stock that I had lying around on last night. I like the cheek weld just a bit better. it still looks pretty good. Just needs a Hogue grip and maybe a trigger. The trigger is alright now, just a bit of creep. I havent weighed it yet, but it seems around 4# or so. Oh ya, tight chamber, so get fresh brass if you're reloading. you'll save yourself a hole lot of awww f**k.:sniper:

Share the wealth!!!! :D Don't be afraid to send some of that 168 grain ammo up North :p

I was actually pretty impressed with the fit of the upper and lower. Plus the trigger on the one I tested was very good. Clean and crisp. Could be a bit lighter but definitely very usable.

The colour of course, and the barrel being a bit thinner than I like were the only negatives. Although the barrel profile does get rid of the balance issues on my DPMS LR308 (IE the darn 24" heavy barrel really is heavy).

Heheh I've jumped on the Falcon Menace band wagon as well. Just got the 4-14x FFP. 4.5-18 IR on the way as well. I've been debating putting one of these on my DPMS LR308 and freeing up the Zeiss Conquest. I'm not sure yet though.

I'm greedy. Any stuff I find, I'm keeping for the zombie invasion. :p

I have the 2.5-10 Falcon on my Black Special. An R-25 with the 4-14 would be a nice compliment.

If i had the spare cash, I think I'd get more Nightforce scopes(the one on my LTR is great), but, I'm just a lowly government worker.

Apparently, you can also get those things in .204 ruger as well, the same hyper velocity round that can turn a small animal into a rag instantaneously. :D

Yup. The only problem is you'll be waiting a long time for a varmint to wander across the range. I've had deer wonder across the range before but I have yet to see gophers, prairie dogs or even coyotes go for a stroll right where I'm shooting. If these weren't restricted I would have bought one in .204 a long time ago.

Wicked Police,
I suffer from the same civil employee problem. If I could they'd all be Zeiss, NF etc. Maybe a March on a bench rest rig. Then I come back to reality. :D

As far as I know(which isn't much :p), it's the same gun as the DMPS LR-308.
And on one of the forums I'm on, the guys love their DPMS guns. At or under MOA with match ammo is a regular thing.

I like them. I've been wanting a 308 AR-type gun, this one might be in my future(or maybe an LR-308 from Questar).

Around .5 moa at 100 when you find the ammo it likes :D. That's a DPMS LR-308 with the 24" bull barrel (no fluting). RRA NM trigger installed (the regular one is crap). I would probably go for a Gieselle though instead. The RRA NM trigger is decent and I can shoot with it, but it could still use some improvement. The one I tried on the R-25 felt fairly close to the RRA NM.

Up until today I couldn't recommend this firearm for a precision .308. Today I found the ammo it likes. So far it's the only round this rifle shoots. 5 round group with 1 called flier (had to shoot in between fairly calm and then 20km/h gusts). Still under 1 inch with all 5 rounds. The other 4 shots were .650" edge to edge at 100 yards. One big hole. Two previous sight in shots were overlapping, and three round group after the sight ins were also overlapping. So it's not a fluke.

Too bad the ammo it picked is F@$# expensive and not all that common.

That's awesome shooting.

If/when I get one, I'll be happy for anything under an inch at 100, and under 4 at 300 with the ammo I have access to.
More than good enough for me. :)

I can usually keep my LTR under an inch at 200 for 3-4 shots, but always screw the pooch and end up opening it up to between 1" and 1.5". :p

Do you guys know if anybody up here has any mags? i tried Questar, but they're not sure when they'll get any in. I was thinking about dropping a Timney in my R-25. I've got one in my kids Armalite carbine and it seems to work pretty well.

Sorry no idea. I've only got the two that came with my rifle. I was also planning on getting a few more from Questar . Although they are very expensive.

I would maybe give SIR a call. They have the R-15 listed and I know they have a lot of stuff that they don't list. They may have the R-25 and some mags. I know it's a long shot. But what's a toll free phone call?

Thanks WP. Although it wasn't looking good until I found the right ammo. Actually it was embarrassing until then.
