Remington does not sell actions....At least in Canada.
Without going to a custom bolt the 338Lapua isn't going to happen in a Remington. By the time you buy an action, blueprint it, and install the bolt a custom action will be cheaper. Best bet for the Remington is the 338Rum or 338Edge.
You are probably better off with a Barnard or Stiller action.
Robertson Composites have them both.
Alberta Tactical also has a premium Lapua action.

What X-fan said. At the end of the day you're better off to start with a proper action rather than trying to cobble together your project on a factory action.
I have seen a Remington Magnum action converted to .338 Lapua. Was done by a very skilled 'smith.
About the only way to get a stripped receiver is to buy a rifle and break it for the parts. Do you have a bolt? Or are you looking for an action?

Hmmmmm... maybe I'm a rookie at this Remmy .338 LM project & maybe I'm too much of a factory rifle newbstick, but didn't I see M700 PSS in .338 LM for sale at board sponsor Frontier Firearms for around $ 1559 ish? Magazine is detachable... and looks tacticool enough for me

I'm not sure of the diameter of the bolt in the Rem 700 338 LM vs a regular 700 Magnum bolt. The face definitely has to be opened up, and the extractor needs to be changed to an AR15 or Sako type. Brownells was selling Rem receivers, but you would have to get a licensed dealer here in Canada to bring one in, and by the time you did that you'd be better off buying a 700 and tearing it down for the receiver, I bet. Really, once you factor in the 'smithing, you'd be money ahead going with one of the custom actions. If you can do the work yourself, the budgeting changes. FWIW - dan
I talked to the smiths at Corlane a while back about this type of project and they advised against it. Alot of work has to be done to the rem action to make it work, and then there is just barely enough material to make it work. It does need a sako type extractor.
Either buy a rem already in the lapua (seems to be lots around now) or choose a different action. A Ruger magnum, weatherby, or a Sako with the big bolt face that will fit the .378wby family are good factory actions to build the lapua. Otherwise I like the Surgeon....... alot!
There are exceptions to every rule though. I know of a fellow who made a .338 lapua AI on a rem 721, it was a pretty good outfit too!

My project is somewhat unique (custom cartridge) and there is a chance that action will get totaled. That is why I'm looking with the most economical receiver+bolt+trigger with 338LM boltface and long enough to cambering 338LM or even longer.
It would be an ideal if I can budget it into $1K

May as well buy the Rem 700MLR just for the action and bottom metal for $1500 {local purchase here}. Sell the barrel and stock on the EE for $400 to $500. Should be close to your $1000 mark.
