So I just picked up an older Rem 700 chambered in .270, got it for $200.
My plan is to re barrel it to 7mm PRC.
Maybe I can recoup a few bucks from the stock , bottom metal, mag and barrel?View attachment 645421

I’m ordering a set of go nogo gages today and a set of dies.

Wondering what barrel to go with?
I’m leaning towards a carbon six prefit finished at 22 inches, but wait time is longggg.

Maybe a Timney trigger.

It’s mostly just just for shooting groups at the range, and something to play around with.

I sold the bottom metal, two mags and a plastic stock off of a rem 700 in 300win mag recently for $150 recently.
I don't have any experience with timney triggers in rem 700s but I have a cadex trigger in one of my 700s and a trigger tech special in another, there both good but I prefer the cadex as it's a two stage. The trigger tech is good value for sure though.

Its a 270 win or WSM? Going to need a magnum bolt face.
I’d try an IBI carbon barrel if your set on carbon. I’ve only used their steel barrels but they are great.

7 PRC is a long action,at least I hope it is.. lol
I took a look at IBI but there was no option for 7 PRC

The bolt face will need to be opened up, and maybe a new mag box and follower for the magnum cartridge

I can't imagine anybody wanting that stock

View attachment 645481So even though the 7 mm PRC uses a standard long action ( 30 06 /.270 etc)
It still need the bolt face opened up to accept the magnum case head?

So my options are to either get a magnum bolt or get the existing bolt face opened from .270 ( long action) to 7 mm RM (long action magnum) ?

Clearly, I have more research to do

Ok then, looks like I made a mistake, good thing it only cost me $200.

So, I’ll need a 7mm rm bolt or a 7mm rm complete action?

You could order a blank and have a smith chamber/install it. You’ll have to anyways unless you want to run a remage nut.
Your biggest issue is still the wrong bolt face

Ya I’d like to run a prefit.
Yes, I just realized I made a mistake. I overlooked the the bolt face size.

So maybe I could find a replacement bolt?
Or would it make more sense to just sell this and get a 7 mm Rem mag action?

For what you paid for the rifle, the net cost of which will be reduced when you sell off the parts, getting a bolt would make sense.

I think Pacific Tool makes 700 bolts. Probably better than having the current bolt modified

Try Gary Eakin bighorn sales

This is the answer for a bolt. You could most likely also sell your current bolt. I'd also just send it off to a good smith and have them spin up a blank and then cerakote the whole thing.

For me, that would be a no-brainer - 280AI. No bolt tweaking necessary. Almost same as 7mmRM.
IBI carbon prefit threaded for brake
Stock/trigger of your liking.

Thanks for the info ,but I traded the rifle.
I’ think I’ll just try and get a Mack brothers action and go from there.
