I just completed an m14 mag conversion prototype for my remington 700 .308 stainless fluted.

the mag conversion had some headaches but after some trouble shooting I have it functioning 100% and the mags go in and out very smooth, nice positive lock. I chose m14 mags with the theory that a sniper spotter pair using an m14 and bolt action 700 variant could share mags.

It has a mcmillan A-2 and versa pod, leupold mk4 3.5-10 with ballistic cam, arms quick detach rings. I'm going to make an oversized bolt handle as well and then give her a paint job. :):)

I'll post some pics soon.

The theory of sniper and spotter sharing mags is good.
Unfortunately in Canuckistan the M14 mags have to be pinned to 5 rnds to be legal even if used in a 700 as the Feds still see the mags as being capable for use in the M14 only.
Now why a sniper would need a 20 rnd mag on a bolt rifle eludes me, if a sniper needed more than 5 to do the job, maybe the M14 would be the preferred firearm, but then what good is battle rifle with only 5 rnds:confused:.
Sure would be nice if our government made some sense wouldn't it?

I suspect it looks real cool though.
Please do post pics when done, always nice to see new inovations.

the practical side of this conversion is that, for us non-snipers, there is a surplus of 5 round m305 mags that no one wants to use in the m305 as they are a PITA to get in and out. cheaper than an AI or HS mag. Also there are 10 round Ausi M10 mags available.

Very nice, we need someone to build a m14 pistol... and a pic of that rifle sporting a 20rds mag.

Any plans on making more of these?

thanks, I don't have plans to make these in production, but who knows....
I didn't plan on making shotgun bayonet mounts to sell either:)

greatly done :)
it's not a question of 20 rounds for sniper, it`s matter of doing this :)
go ahead , we are waiting for your new stuff :)))

thanks,
in the typical sniper role 1 shot is adequate; however, with todays urban combat (think midday urban Iraq) a 20 round mag has its uses. A squad designated marksman or a sniper in an over-watch counter sniper or counter suicide bomber role may be required to take several precise shots in rapid succession.

This could fill that role in a package capable of 600 meter+ shooting (obviously there are semi options for this as well).

Very Cool !!!! :dancingbanana:

Did you have to do any modifications to the receiver ?? I've always heard the M14 mag being a doublestack was too wide to fit far enough into the action to allow the bolt to pick up a round .....

I'd also love to see any build pics you'd be willing to share !

Great job by the way :)

yes,
thats exactly correct. It was a pita to get the bolt to pick up rounds from the right side of the mag. I tried every option I could think of but in the end I had to mill a minute amount of material from the bottom of the receiver. It is insignificant regarding strength and function of the receiver. It will still function with normal bottom metal or mag system and seats in bedding or stock exactly the same.

i like it....... :D
and I want one :D :D
drawings? close up pics without the stock? p.m. me if you like
I need an excuse to buy a new bolt gun....... and geebus.... i have a box full of m14 shorty mags.

glad you like it,
I'm going to see how much interest there is first, but obviously, it would be great to have another :DCANADIAN MADE:D inovative product available without importation bs.

If there isn't enough demand for production I can still help interested parties build their own.

i WANT one!

If you're trying to guage interest, I'm interested!
Hell, I'll buy another SPS Varmint just to put this on it! :D
I think it is a GREAT idea, now you have mags that work in 2 guns. Not only that, but there are M14 mags available EVERYWHERE, and they certainly beat the $100 price tag on the AICS mags, and whatever the HS mags are going for these days.....
how much work did you have to do to the McMillan stock to get the rig in there?
And finally, you say it's not a work of art, but I disagree. I don't know what kind of equipment you have available, but it looks great, professionally done. If this post was titled "new M14 mag conversion kit from wilson combat" I would believe it from the pics. :p
Good work!

Tim

thanks Tim,
It's a bit rough around the edges but most prototypes are. I have an oversized bolt handle on now (might go with a teardrop shape if I don't like the round), so, I'll give it some finishing touches and post some better pics in a few days when I get some time. mcmillan required no inletting but it already had a mag system in it. I have to try it in an hs precision stock still, might fit slightly different

Count me in for sure, I was looking at the other options already for my new SPST, but M14 mags... you get many, many more for the same rice.

prototype is completed now, I painted the rifle yesterday. I'm happy with it:)
taking her out for a date tonight:D
it looks in the pic like there is a run in the paint but it's just gun oil
