Remchoke vs Wingmaster HD choke

Just trying to clear something up here. There are the normal flush-mounted Remchokes, and then there are the Remington Wingmaster HD chokes which advertizing suggests are optimized in some way for Wingmaster HD ammunition. What does that mean, effectively? Handles steel shot? Can I expect a significant difference shooting buckshot or lead rifled slugs through the two chokes (IC)?

I have an 887 Tactical (comes with the ported door breacher/hole saw cylinder choke), and I want an IC choke, but I'd rather not use a flush remchoke because the mag tube will extend beyond the muzzle a bit, and I prefer the knurled extended chokes...am I ok to use a "Wingmaster HD" choke with everything I'd normally put through my gun (target shot, 00 buck, 1oz foster slug), or is there something special about them that will preclude or inhibit buck and slugs?

HD is hard shot so I'd expect they have less constriction than lead chokes for the same designation I.C. Mod. Etc. Cylinder is Cylinder but I'd expect HD full to be a lead mod constriction. Be simpler if they just put the constriction on the choke but that's probably top secret. I'd guess the over decoys is likely IC

Yeah, that's what I'm wondering really. I doubt the "optimized for HD shot" bit is much more than marketing smoke, but I'd like to know if IC is IC either way before I put $30 into the choke. That, and the extended, knurled HD choke suggests I won't need to buy a wrench or clean powder burns off my mag tube every time I shoot it... I'm just hoping to find out if an "HD" IC choke will shoot buck and slug as well as an IC remchoke.

My guess is that the greater tube length allows for a more gradual taper to a given choke constriction compared with flush-fitting choke tubes. I don't think they would cause any problems with regular lead target, buckshot, or slug loads, but the only way to say for sure is to test it.

Sounds like a reasonable theory. I was wondering whether the dimensions/taper were different, or if it was just a matter of the material hardness/finish. Going on a One Shot Tactical course this weekend. Maybe I'll just pick one up and see how it does.

I had set of extended rem chokes that were designated as sporting clays chokes. SK IC LM and M. I believe the extended portion often has a parallel section that is the exit diameter of the choke section intended to stabilze the shot after constriction. I ended up cutting notches for a choke tube wrench in mine cause I couldn't get them tight enough by hand not to shoot loose after 25-30 rounds.

Well, turns out they're sold out everywhere even though I handled them at two stores mere days ago. Hunting season, I suppose. I'll probably get one someday, but not before this weekend.
