Ok Guys and Gals after reading all the discusions about the good and bad of the Remig. 597 .22. I decided for the first time in my life to buy a Reming. Being a Savage man this was a step in a different direction for me. I own 8 .22 cal rifles most Savages, some coeys, a russian and now the PROUD owner of a Remington.
So I brought it to the range yesterday fresh out of the box with a scope with 10 different types of ammo because everyone was going on on about how they jam all the time, need new extractors and triggers etc. Shooting 30 rounds of each ammo never had one fail to fire, stove pipe, no eject, nothing but smooth operation !!! Love the gun !!!
So as with all rifles it likes different ammo then another gun, here is the list of ammo I tried, best to worst in grouping and flyers. Shots were taken at 50 meters, from bench with bipod. I cant upload picts so I have no proof LOL, but the Blazers were shooting a nickle sized hole with no flyers.

Blazer 40g BEST
Cci 36 g @1260
Cci 40 g @1070
WindX HV 40g@ 1280
Wind 40 wildcat
Wind 40 super RN @1300
Wind 36 xpert22
Wind 555 36 1280
Wind target 40
Wind dynapoint 40 WORST

Conclusion these are great little guns for playing with and hunting, I think it has changed my view of the Remigtons !!

Glad to see another positive experience with the 597. My VTR has been chugging along just fine for over 3 years and 5,000 rounds of bulk ammo. If there is an FTF, its the ammo and havent had a single FTE yet.

I paid $500 plus tax for mine in a package with a 3x9 scope and a case. Wasn't worth the price, it's a hunk of junk.

I was a newbie and didn't know what I was doing. Guy behind the counter was a fast talker!

I got the same package with scope, while a bud bought without (wanted his own scope). Oddly he had the worst luck with Blazers. I've been having good luck with Win Super-X HV 40g. Recently bought a 555 pack of Federal HPs, 36 or 38g (can't remember) and they're ok too. Obviously I need a lot more practice - I'm still happy to get 10 into the 2" circle at 50 yards.
