Reminder Check your brass

I have collected the 9mm brass from various shoots I have been at, found 2 with cracks in case, even though the brass looked in excellent shape otherwise and the primer was not showing any signs over pressure. While loading up the rest of the brass I found one of the cases had split when the cast bullet had been inserted. I make a point of looking at my brass before and after reloading, glad I did!

Out of curiosity, has anyone fired a cracked 9mm case? How much gas escapes? I guess it would depend on the size of the crack, but any info would be enlightening.

I had a .223 case split on me while shooting an ar-15. This was back in the day when we could use 30 round mags. The force blew the mag wide open on the bottom and all the rounds spilled out. I felt the force on my face but was unharmed.

The rifle was fine too.

Had a 9mm case split lengthwise in my pistol. Wouldn't have known had I not picked up my brass.
Its a good idea to inspect brass before you start to load it. Particualrly if you are picking up range brass. You don't know WHY it was left on the ground.

If you rattle a few in your hand, a cracked one will sound different. It is a dull sound, not a ring. Hard to describe, but it is very apparent when you do it.

yes I shot a couple cracked ones, no big deal, even had a couple light .44 mag, again no big deal. but just to be safe, throw them out.

Things to Remember - Sorry. Couldn't Resist!

I'd also recommend looking both ways before crossing the street and please, do not run with scissors...

Share everything.
Play fair.
Don't hit people.
Put things back where you found them.
Clean up your own mess.
Don't take things that aren't yours.
Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody.
Wash your hands before you eat.
Flush.
Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you.
Live a balanced life - learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some.
Take a nap every afternoon.
When you go out in the world, watch out for traffic, hold hands and stick together.
Be aware of wonder. Remember the little seed in the Styrofoam cup: the roots go down and the plant goes up and nobody really knows how or why, but we are all like that.
Goldfish and hamsters and white mice and even the little seed in the Styrofoam cup - they all die. So do we.
And then remember the ####-and-Jane books and the first word you learned - the biggest word of all - LOOK.

Cheers.

I suspect all 3 cases came from the same guy, I am keeping this batch apart from the others and tossing it when I am finished.
