Hey guys, for years, I've been shooting trap with an old 11-48 12 gauge but I've seen very little written about them. Some of what I've read suggests that these guns had some issues. I've only ever shot target loads from it, but it was a duck gun of my grandfather's originally. I guess I have 2 questions~is it safe to shoot higher-power modern loads from this gun and, are there other Remington parts that will fit this gun? (barrels/stocks, etc.) I've been trying to get my hands on a 12.5" Grizzly as a bear gun (still probably the best idea if/when they become available again) but HAVE wondered...can I use a shorter barrel from another Remington on this gun, fit synthetics on in place of the walnut, etc.

Thanks for taking a moment to respond.

I'm no expert, but I'm certain you can only use another 11-48 barrel on that gun.

I'll bet you can have the choke opened up to modified and shoot steel through it.

Met a guy hunting with one last fall.

It is one of a kind nothing else interchanges it is of fairly good quality as far as strength it is able to handle any modern ammo . Made from 1948-1968 it was manufacture in all gauges.

Thanks for the input guys. Yeah, my online searches suggest that if you want another barrel for your 11-48, you have to find another 11-48 barrel! lol

Mine is a fixed/modified choke and is in perfect working order. Would be nice to see it doing double-duty as a bear gun with a shorter barrel. Guess I'm back on the hunt for a 12.5 grizzly.
