Thinking of getting this semi-auto shotgun, but wondering about the reliability it has cycling light 2 3/4 field loads (Cheap-O shot loads)

Any problems with this model, or it as good as it looks.
Will use mostly for sporting clays, and plinking up north on crown land

Stupid question, but will it handle rifled slugs...even with full chock & 30" barrel?

Thanks.

i have 2, 1 premier and 1 sps. i use both for clays and ducks. they both work flawlesly with light 2 3/4 target loads and steel field loads. i sold all my other shotguns after using the 11-87. Ya, i like them that much.

you can shoot slugs, even with the full choke. but use the cylinder choke to lighten recoil.

Just for your info, if all you're shooting are light loads, a standard 1100 will also fit the bill. There are lots of 1100 standard guns out there with fixed chokes and 2-3/4" chambers which guys can't/won't use for waterfowl any more, so they're getting rid of them. But they'd be perfectly suited for your needs.

Our club gun is a 11-87. It has been used heavily for more than 12 years. It digests all kinds of cheapy ammo and some questionable reloads form our newer members. Yes it WILL jam occaisionally but if kept clean it purrs along very nicely. My main Sporting gun is a Beretta 686 but my back up is my trusty 11-87 Premier. I'm considering getting another semi this spring and passing on the ole Reminton to my son in law. Right now the new G3 is leading the pack. I Like the 391's also but an extra $500 buys a lot of shells.:)

Isn't a Rem G3 and an AL391 Urika pretty much the same price?

I guess I got carried away in my comparision with the G3 and 391. At Epps the AL391 Urika Field is $1319 and the G3 is $999. Still like the G3. Hope I will have a chance to handle one this spring when I travel to Ont.

That's a pretty good spread. $320 at least. As you said that buys a lot of shells.

My reference was a London store that advertises:

G3 = $1189
391 = $1315 (Urika Field)
--------------------
$126 difference

I held and shouldered a G3 a couple of months ago. Felt just like my other Rem 1100's. Didn't want to feel like I was just getting another one of something that I already had 2 of. Yes, I know the G3 is a better than an older 1100, but I wanted something different. The 391 on the other hand is a whole new beast. LOVE IT!!
