You guessed right if you think that I'm having cycling issues with light loads.
The manual states that," a barrel seal activator is used on the model 11-87 super magnum when using 2 3/4 loads. Removal of the barrel seal activator is recommended when using 3" or 3 1/2" loads".
Here's my question, wouldn't the barrel seal block gasses needed to cycle the action on light loads? I'm thinking that the seal activator should be removed for light loads not the heavy ones? The gun works great with magnum loads but can't cycle the lighter loads.
I cleaned it down well, even the gas ports through the barrel. I could have the piston seal and activator on the wrong way but I doubt it.
Any one care to steer me in the right direction. Much appreciated.

The other seal traps more gas so the gun cycles harder... allowing it to work better with the light loads... but the gun will "slam" with heavy loads if you leave this in, wearing out the action in a hurry i'm sure. I had the same gun, I never needed that seal. I put an entire box of cheap target stuff thru it in one day... the only fail to eject was blamed on my friend not shouldering it properly to take the recoil, when i told him to hold it tight, it never happened again...not sayin' this is what ur doing though:rolleyes:

I shouldered it tight. I even took a kneeing postion to keep added weight forward.
I just did some reading on other shotgun forums. The same issue came up. You can't use light loads in this gun. I suspect the return spring is stronger for those 3 1/2" loads.

It looked unfired. I put cheap Winchester 2 3/4 universal loads through it and they would barely eject. The odd one would. The magnum loads all worked flawlessly. It's definitely an insufficient gas issue. It could need some breaking in. Had an 1100 that ran even those Canuck loads from Cdn tire. It's basically the same gun. The o ring isn't tight in the groove and slides off a little easy. I'm searching for a replacement.

That reminds me, my gunsmith recommended i change that, and i did, to a silvery grey plastic one... keep the original for a spare.

I bought one new when they first came out. It was a walnut stocked model.Would not cycle anything light kit or no kit. Worked fine with heavy magnums so I sold it to s duck hunter. I have had probally 4 of the 3" model however and they functioned fine but not that 3 1/2.
Some say the new ones will but I am not willing to try another.
