Hey guys~having no luck getting a bead on a grouse this year, but as always....looking at 20ga. shotguns. :) I like Remington shotguns, and don't have a 20ga semi...so naturally, an 1100 came to mind. Who here has one, uses it for upland, and what barrel length are you running? What lengths are available?

Second part of the question... I like nice wood, so it has me contemplating a new or used G3 when the time comes, but are these shotguns too pretty to hunt with? Do you hunt with your G3 if you have one?

I hunt with a 12 gauge 1100 for all small game. There is no such thing as a gun that is too pretty for upland hunting. Too heavy, sure and I have to admit occasionally my 1100 is on the heavy side but I think the 20 gauge might be a bit more comfortable for all day hiking hillsides and walking grown over farms.
All my shotguns sport either 26-28" barrels, and I personally prefer 26" barrels for my upland guns and 20 gauges specifically, although a 24" barrel would be tempting. It would not be a deal breaker, but the 1100 currently only comes with a 28" barrel in 20 gauge.

Too pretty?
Just like the gal is too pretty to do jiggy jiggy with?
Go put some memories on it, lumps, bumps, scratches et all...........

Maybe too pretty for a waterfowl gun, but not for upland when you can pick those dry sunny days to be in the field. Get the G3 model and use it. Upland hunting is not hard on guns. I don't hunt grouse in the rain and I don't expect I'd ever need to use it as a paddle, either.

A 20 ga. 1100 in the Light Contour config would be sweet. 26" barrel would be hard to beat.

As a gun collector we love you guys :)

To the OP it all depends what model the gun is and potential collector value. Would I upland hunt with a G3 yep but there are many other shotguns I would not and now glad I didnot after seeing their current value. For me just one example is these winchester super x-1's which was always way too pretty to hunt with and now after seeing what they trade for am glad I didnot use mine

Cheers
