Hello,

I'll start by saying hello, as this is my first post here. Lurked for a while and have always been impressed with the volume of great info on here.

I recently got passed down an older (late 60s) remington 1100 12ga. The gun is mint except for the action spring is worn out. Haven't had any luck finding one of these locally in Vancouver or online w/ someone willing to ship to Canada. Wondering if anyone here knew of a good source for Remington parts within Canada.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Have you tried the site sponsor Reliable Gun in Vancouver?
Then there is Western gun Parts in Edmonton, but the girl answering the phone will wont the make model and serial number for said gun not to mention your CC number with expiry date and shipping info too.
Then there is Wolf Spring as well and have heard loads of good stuff about them.

Welcome to the site!

Out of curiousity - how do you know the spring is worn out? What symptoms are you seeing? I have a similar vintage 1100 and haven't heard of action springs going 'bad'.

Is it a 'MAGNUM' marked receiver with 30" full choke barrel? My guess is it's not cycling target loads? Making a lot of assumptions here, but thought I'd ask!

Thanks for all of the above!

RE: Canucklehead.

It's a "regular" 2 3/4" 28" fixed MOD choke. I got the gun from my grandfather after being in storage for probably 20+ years. When I stripped it for the first time I took the spring out and measured it. From what I've read/heard elsehwere they are 15" when new. Mine measured 14 1/4", with 14 1/2" being the throwaway point. Based on the low round count I know it had on it, I'm thinking it must have been stored with the bolt locked fully rearward for its time in storage and the spring took a set.

In terms of symptoms: I put a case of federal target loads through it after cleaning and replacing the O-ing; the gun willl sometimes load a shell but not fully return to battery. After firing it a bit I also notice the bolt is beating itself against the most rearward part of the reciever harder than it should. I've read some places to check/replace springs after 10,000 rounds or so, but I'm sure many guns go their whole lives without problems or it being changed. Just figure for the price it's cheap insurance, as the gun has sentimental value to me....

Thanks again for all the replies!
