So I am working on my buddies dad's Remington 1100 right now. He sent me an email quoted as follows:

"This is the part of my Remington 1100 that keeps falling off. It's about 3 inches. It's the part that keeps the shells in the magazine. I was told the post that supports it has to be replaced because the split washer won't stay on to keep the piece in place."

When my buddy delivered the shotgun, he handed over the gun, and the interceptor latch in a ziplock bag. No retainer to be found. So I have never worked on one of these guns before, but having taken it apart, I don't see how the post the latch is seated on could be the problem, since it's integral to the receiver and the groove for the retainer appears fine. Seems to me that all that is needed to get this gun in working order is a new retainer, but since I don't really know what I am doing, I am deferring to the expertise here. Am I on the right path?

If you are talking about the feed latch ... I am pretty sure that is staked in place ... and there is a special tool available/used to stake the latch ...iirc Brownell also sell that tool...

Edit to add -- I believe the tool you want/need is this (as a bonus it does the interceptor latch as well) :

oops ... NLA ... you can also use a small drift pin to upset the metal enough to secure the latch

The interceptor latch fits onto and pivots on a post that is in the receiver. You will need to put it back on and secure it with the small snap ring that fits in the groove of the post. There are 2 or 3 thicknesses of snap rings available from Remington in order to eliminate wobble of the interceptor latch once it is installed.

The staking tool as indicated in the above post is for the FEED latch which is similar to the Feed and stop latch in the Rem 870.
