hey guys, unfortunately i dont know what this part is called so ill just describe it. ive got a remington 1100, shes an oldie but reliable as hell and goes bang 10 times out of 10. last time out i noticed the bolt was starting to jam a little as i pulled it back. so i took her apart and found that the two fingers that slide back with the bolt in to the butt stock had broken. first it was one and then the other snapped off as well, so she just sits in the safe and i just remembered shes broken. i tried to find a blown up schematic to find the part and figure out what its called so i could ask where to get one but nothing in the pictures i found looks right.

Did you try Brownell's? This is a schematic for a 12 guage 1100.

Here you go...$14.99, item 61 - called a link.

If that's the part I'm thinking of, it is a common repair part in an 1100 with a high round count. Easy to replace, needle nose pliers make the job easier. Western Gun Parts or Remington's Canadian parts distributor in Quebec will have it. Refer to the schematics Jackrabbit mentioned to get the exact part before you call either place

With small dollar items like this I usually buy 2 sets.

Brownells and Numrichs also nice schematics. I wish a Canadian company had such a nice website, but I do hear good things about Western Gun Parts, you just have to know exactly what the part is called when you call.

I would take the spring and plunger out of the tube in the stock before putting the new link in just to make sure everything is clean and free. Yes links will fatique but most times there is spring issues being the root cause. Just a suggestion.

thanks guys, the link actually broke on both tabs so i know thats the cause, ordered the link last night and ill go from there. the fella i bought the gun from shot a ton of trap with it and ive put an easy 1000 rounds through her since buying it less than a year ago, guns older too, 20+ years old but aside from that a joy to shoot. thanks again for all the help

You are looking at the end result the two broken tabs but maybe not the cause. It yes could have failed on the tabs ( normally 7-10,000 rounds)due to fatique or could have failed due to a sticky or damaged recoil spring, rough rails, etc which caused the tabs to shear. For what it takes to take the spring out and check and clean it, lube up the rails I would not be talking the chance of damaging a new part. I'm just thinking a 20 year old gun and probally never totally apart for cleaning so the spring assy could be gummed up but it is your gun and money. take care

thanks for the advice, ive had her fully apart minus the spring assembly. the tabs broke at two seperate times not at the same time, not sure if i worded that wrong originally or not. when i bought the gun i stripped cleaned and oiled as i do with any gun i buy, but im sure shes due for another thorough cleaning and a once over. the part is at my us mailbox so ill go grab it next week and get her in. thanks again for the help

FWIW I second 3Mac1's suggestion of removing the stock and cleaning/checking/lubing the recoil spring in the tube at the rear of the receiver. At worst it will help ensure smooth operation. It's the most overlooked portion of an 1100 when it comes to maintenance.

thanks for the link and the help. shes all done, that stupid shell catch popped out and ended up causing me all sorts of issues. its been out before as well and everything went together no problem. i checked online and screwed with it for a bit before figuring out just how it goes back in. not to mention three battle cuts on my fingers. lol. but shes back together and smooth as butter. thanks again for all the help
